High school diploma required. Must pass computer testing (Word, Excel & PowerPoint), typing, clerical assessment and calculator tests.
Preferred 2 to 5 years experience working in safety administration, including office work, training coordination and record keeping. Experience working with OSHA regulations pertaining to general industry and construction a must, or obtain within 12 months.
OSHA 500 or 501 and 511 certification required or obtain within 12 months. Must have good written and oral communication skills. Must be confident in the understanding of governmental regulations to address large groups in training sessions. Must have excellent record keeping and organizational skills. Must be able to work in a team environment and be effective in assisting employees with safety issues. Must be willing and able to obtain and maintain OSHA 40-Hour Hazwoper Certification and OSHA 30-Hour or equivalent.
Conduct inspections, review safety incidents, plant operations and monitoring safety compliance in the plant will be required daily. Prepare and conduct employee and/or contractor safety training. Conduct record keeping for regulatory compliance (OSHA log, accident records, training records, etc.). Assist other Safety/Security Department staff as needed. Investigate and conduct incident investigations. Conduct typical office functions, such as answering phones, setting appointment, ordering supplies for the safety office, coordinating meetings. Research OSHA and EPA regulations as needed. Assist in preparing capital project requests, if needed. Coordinate and manage corporate training material. Investigate employee safety concerns. Coordinate, audit and maintain hot work permit and confined space entry permit record keeping. Assist with safety program development. Set up and perform traininig for MRT/ERT members. Facilitate various safety trainings (Confined Space, Hot Work, Art, etc.). Conduct safety training on new hires. Present safety information at GEMs. Perform employee drug testing as needed. Assist with planning and organizing plant functions. Will cross train with, and fill in as needed for the Human Resources Associate.
Responsible for maintaining safety equipment such as 4-gas meter, dosimeter, fit testing equipment, etc. Conduct monthly safety meetings and provide monthly meeting minutes. Review safety suggestions and distribute safety gift cards, Coordinate toolbox topics. Review and log monthly safety inspections and conduct monthly safety inspections of the Safety Department. Assist with the development of the departmental budget by putting together cost information for items under direct responsibility. Must have good verbal communication skills and work well with all levels of management. Coordinate and maintain Bio-waste needle stick bins. Regular attendance required. Must interact cordially with co-workers. Perform any other duties assigned.
